Today's ruling from the Franklin County Court on Ohio’s Gender Affirming Care Ban is deeply distressing. This decision represents not only an infringement on parental rights to seek evidence-based care for their children but also a direct assault on the established medical science that affirms gender-affirming care as both effective and safe.
I urge the Ohio ACLU to appeal this troubling decision, as it threatens to undermine the well-being of trans youth in our state. HB 68 is rooted in misinformation and outright falsehoods, many of which I have addressed in my previous "Dispelling Myths" presentations.
For those applauding this ruling—many of whom, including the bill's creator, do so for reasons that are more religious than scientific—please recognize that your applause contributes to the suffering of trans youth and their families in Ohio. Denying this care leads to increased suicidality, depression, anxiety, and self-harm.
As Christian scripture tells us, you will know a tree by the fruit it bears. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit. The fruit of this misguided bill is suffering for trans youth, and it’s clear that this tree is rotten to its core.
I am committed to fighting for a future where every citizen—trans or cisgender, gay or straight, religious or non-religious—can be themselves and thrive in our state. I will not rest until that vision becomes a reality.
