To my neighbors and friends across the aisle,
With Election Day nearly upon us, some of you may have already voted. But if you’re still deciding, I want to speak directly to you – Republicans and Republican-leaning independents – because this choice could make a real difference for all of us.
Two years ago, you put your faith in Angie King for the Ohio House. In return, she’s focused on issues that, if we’re honest, haven’t made life here any easier. From the protests around a Pride event that put her shoulder-to-shoulder with Neo-Nazis to a drag ban bill, these stances may get headlines, but they haven’t brought meaningful progress.
Meanwhile, I’d rather work with you to tackle what we know really matters here: better funding for our public schools, ending the voucher scam, and getting real value for our tax dollars. Even if public schools aren’t your top priority, the current voucher system means that taxpayer money is diverted from our local schools and into private ones. This ultimately leads to higher taxes as public schools come to you for more levies, costing you more.
Agriculture, the backbone of our community, deserves better support too. I want to focus on policies that give local farmers better access to healthcare, boost funding for farmers markets, and expand vocational training for students interested in farming. I’d also push for a program that helps public schools source food locally, ensuring students are served fresh, local products while supporting the local economy. On top of that, I’m committed to giving local businesses a tax break if they source from local farmers. It’s practical, it’s local, and it’s pro-farmer.
Then there’s the issue of taxes. My opponent supported a tax code “simplification” that mostly helped the wealthy, with little or no benefit for the middle class. I want to see tax cuts go to those who deserve it: the working families keeping Ohio strong. Right now, her plan gave the CEO a break, while you, the employee, got stuck with the same or even higher rates. It’s backward, and we need to fix it.
Look, I know that in a short two-year term, there’s only so much you can do. But in the time we’ve had to see what Angie King is about, the “culture war” focus hasn’t made life better here. I’m ready to offer a different path – one where I’m working with you on real solutions that matter in our lives.
Electing me would send a message to both parties: Republicans will need to show up for you with meaningful solutions, and Democrats will see that rural voices deserve their attention. It’ll create real competition for our votes, and that means better candidates and better outcomes for us.
So, when you go to fill in that bubble, I hope you’ll consider what I’m bringing to the table. Voting is private, and no one needs to know how you vote unless you want to tell them. You can take that opportunity for change and keep it all to yourself.
Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to representing all of us here in the 84th.
With respect,
Arienne Childrey
